The Crossley ambulance was part of the First World War shift from horse-drawn transport to motorised medical evacuation. Adapted from a civilian chassis, it supported British Red Cross and volunteer ambulance services, enabling faster movement of wounded soldiers from the front lines to casualty clearing stations and hospitals, and contributing to the development of modern military ambulance logistics.
